Indians Battle Gamely, But Lose 'Royals Half' Of Split-Squad Friday

Jeanmar Gomez looked shaky, David Huff looked worse, and that combination on the mound was enough to doom the Indians this afternoon, as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Tribe 6-5 in the matinee portion of a split-squad doubleheader which will conclude later tonight against the Texas Rangers.

Gomez gave up three runs and four hits in four innings, walking two and striking out three, while Huff, in 2.1 frames worked, allowed six hits and three runs to take the loss, dropping Huff to 1-1 on the spring.

The offense wasn’t bad, with Lonnie Chisenhall once again shining, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carlos Santana drove in two and Shelley Duncan drove in a fourth run for the Tribe, Ezequiel Carrera chipped in two hits, as did Travis Buck, as Cleveland matched Kansas City with eleven hits, but the Royals made a little more of their production, and the Indians dropped to 7-11 in the Cactus League.

7-11…nice numbers if you are at a casino, but not so much so if you are a major league baseball team getting ready for the season.

If there is not already a recap of the Rangers’ game late tonight or early tomorrow, one will be provided with the preview of tomorrow’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
