According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cleveland Indians will be hiring Terry Francona as their next manager and will be announcing the move on Monday.
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cleveland Indians will be hiring Terry Francona as their next manager, and expects the announcement to come Monday.
Earlier in the week Sandy Alomar Jr. had interviewed for the job. Alomar took over for Manny Acta as the Indians' interim manager for the final six games of the regular season, and was considered the early favorite to land the job on a permanent basis.
The Indians will be the third stop in Francona's managerial career. He previously managed the Boston Red Sox from 2004-2011 following a stint with the Phillies from 1997-2000. Francona won two World Series titles with the Red Sox, in his first season in 2004 and again in 2007.
This will not be Francona's first go around with the Indians. He spent the 1988 season as a member of the Indians as he neared the end of his playing career. He played 62 games for Cleveland that season, batting .311 with three homeruns and 23 RBI.
