The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly interested in pursuing Cleveland shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera via trade this offseason.
With the Cleveland Indians expected to listen to offers for shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera this offseason, Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals have a "real" interest in acquiring the All-Star infielder.
Set to turn 27 years old next week, Cabrera hit 16 home runs with 68 RBI this season for an Indians team that fell apart in the second-half of the year. Although his power numbers dipped slightly from his impressive breakout campaign the previous year, Cabrera remains one of the game's premier offensive players at his position.
The Cardinals will be desperate to add a marquee shortstop this offseason according to Strauss, and would likely have to part with one or two of their top pitching prospects in order to swing a deal. Knowing that the Indians may be seeking young arms above all else in a possible swap, names like Trevor Rosenthal, Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn could be the type of players Cleveland could look at in return.
