Indians Spring Training 2012: Cleveland Claims P Rick VandenHurk Off Waivers

The Cleveland Indians have claimed right-handed pitcher Rick VandenHurk off of waivers to compete for a spot in their bullpen, according to Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Via Hoynes:

VandenHurk, who is out of options, is on his way to Goodyear. It will probably take him a couple of days because the Blue Jays train in Dunedin, Fla. To make room for VandenHurk on the 40-man roster, Kelvin De La Cruz, the traveling man, was once again designated for assignment.

VandenHurk, 26, has played five seasons in the MLB, racking up seven wins ans eight losses and an ERA of 5.96 in 181 innings. This spring VandenHurk made four appearances for the Blue Jays and posted a 9.95 ERA. He struck out three, walked six and allowed 10 hits.
