Indians Add RHP Esmil Rogers To Roster, Option Matt LaPorta To Columbus

On Wednesday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians added right-handed pitcher Esmil Rogers to the active roster one day after acquiring the 26-year old reliever from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for cash considerations. In the process, the team also had to option 27-year old first baseman Matt LaPorta to Triple-A Columbus in order to make room for Rogers.

Rogers went 0-2 with an 8.06 ERA over 25.2 innings pitched in 23 appearances for Colorado this season. LaPorta was in his first Major League stint with the Indians after being called-up by the team on June 3 while Johnny Damon was on the paternity list. He appeared in three games and recorded two hits and two strikeouts in eleven at-bats.
