Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who underwent Tommy John surgery in Sept. of 2011, is scheduled to begin pitching in live game situations this week. Carrasco has been assigned to the Arizona Rookie League, where he will continue his rehab back to the majors.

Carrasco, who as acquired by Cleveland when the team traded Cliff Lee to the Philadelphia Phillies, showed flashes in 2011 of what made him a top pitching prospect. In that season, Carrasco posted a 4.62 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 124.2 innings. If all goes well for Carrasco, he should be ready to rejoin the team on Opening Day 2013.

Carrasco's return to game action comes on the heels of the announcement that fellow Cleveland pitcher Josh Tomlin will have to undergo Tommy John surgery.
