Yankees Vs. Indians Final Score: Cleveland Falls Yet Again, 4-2

The Cleveland Indians fell for the 10th time in 11 games on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 4-2 decision to the New York Yankees at Progressive Field, 4-2.

Nick Swisher was the main contributor on offense for the Yanks, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Curtis Granderson also added his 33rd home run of the season.

Ubaldo Jimenez made it through just five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four. Yankees starter Freddy Garcia only went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six.

Facing an early 3-0 deficit, the two runs for the Indians on the afternoon came on a Carlos Santana single in the bottom of the fifth that cut the score to 3-2. Jason Kipnis had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4, but most of his offense didn't translate to runs.

Granderson's homer in the top of the sixth put the game away for the Yankees.

Indians Vs. Yankees: Ubaldo Jimenez Hopes To Lead Cleveland To 2nd-Straight Win

The Cleveland Indians ended a nine-game losing streak by beating the New York Yankees last night. Ubaldo Jimenez (9-12, 5.59 ERA) starts today against Freddy Garcia (7-5, 4.96 ERA) as the Indians try to win two straight and get their first series victory since they took two of three from the Detroit Tigers in late July.

Jimenez has lost four of his last five decisions. He's faced the Yankees once this season, giving up four runs in six innings while striking out seven in a loss on June 27.

Garcia has won all three of his decisions in August. He made two appearances against Cleveland out of the bullpen in June, giving up no runs in 3.1 innings and striking out three. He's 8-6 with a 3.83 ERA in his career against the Indians.

Indians Vs. Yankees: Cleveland Snaps Losing Streak With 3-1 Win

With a three run home run in the bottom of the first inning, Indians centerfielder Michael Brantley gave his team a 3-0 lead, and that was all the offense necessary to snap a nine-game losing streak for the team.

The Yankees -- who were swept during the week by the Chicago White Sox -- seemed to get back on track with a 3-1 win over the Indians on Friday, but continued their offensive slump on Saturday. Justin Masterson pitched into the seventh inning for the Indians, allowing just one run before he was pulled.

Both Vinnie Pestano and Chris Perez made appearances in relief, but neither allowed a hit to the Yankees to preserve the victory. The final game of the three-game series will be played on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Indians Vs. Yankees: Cleveland Looks To Prevent 10-Game Losing Streak

Saturday's starter Hiroki Kuroda and Yankees pitchers in general have been rough on Cleveland this season. Kuroda looks to add to an impressive string of starts (5-1 in his last 10) while sending Cleveland to its 10th consecutive loss.

Cleveland has scored one run in each of its last three games and have dropped 22 of its last 24 games. An Indians loss would make it the second time since July 27 the team has lost 10 consecutive games.

The Tribe will counter with Justin Masterson (9-11, 4.73), the last Indians pitcher to register a win. His recent success against the Yankees should give the Indians some confidence. He has a 2.81 ERA in four starts against New York (2-2).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Indians Vs. Yankees: C.C. Sabathia Returns From Disabled List To Shut Down Cleveland

New York Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia (13-3, 3.44 ERA) returned from the disabled list and gave up one run in 7.1 innings while striking out nine in a 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians, his former team, Friday. It was Cleveland's ninth straight loss.

Nick Swisher hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning scoring Derek Jeter to break a 1-1 tie. Swisher also drove in New York's first run, plating Jeter on a double in the first inning.

Cody Allen (0-1, 1.23 ERA) took the loss in relief. He had not allowed a run in 12 appearances prior to the Swisher home run. Starter Cory Kluber allowed one run and struck out six in five innings.

Cleveland loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Yankees closer Rafael Soriano got Jack Hannahan to ground out to end the threat.

Hirkoki Kuroda (12-8, 2.96 ERA) starts for the Yankees tomorrow against Justin Masterson (9-11, 4.73 ERA).
