The Cleveland Indians have claimed reliever Scott Maine off waivers from the Chicago Cubs, as the team announced on Wednesday. The lefty was placed on waivers two days ago after the Cubs acquired catcher Anthony Recker from the Oakland Athletics.

Maine, 27, appeared in 21 games with the Cubs this season, posting a 4.79 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 12 walks over 20.2 innings. He's also spent significant time in Triple-A this season, posting a 2.88 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 13 walks over 34.1 innings. The ERA is certainly better, but his strikeout rate in the majors may be a stronger sign of potential.

This will be Maine's third organization in his six-year professional career. After being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, he was traded to the Cubs in exchange for Aaron Heilman, and he spent the past three years going up-and-down with Chicago.
