Indians Vs. Tigers Final Score: Cleveland Dealt 9th Straight Loss In Heartbreaking Fashion

The Cleveland Indians did everything conceivable to win on Sunday afternoon against the Tigers at Comerica Park, but in the end came away with a frustrating 10-8 loss after a wild 10th inning flipped the game on its head.

Cleveland opened the day quite well with a pair of runs off Tigers starter Max Scherzer in the first inning, and added a Shin-Soo Choo solo home run and a Carlos Santana RBI single to eventually knock Scherzer from the mound after just five innings. With the score deadlocked at five apiece to open extra innings, Indians hitters wasted little time jumping on the fastball of Detroit right-hander Joaquin Benoit. A solo home run from Travis Hafner was immediately followed by a blast from promising youngster Ezequiel Carrera to break the game open, as catcher Lou Marson doubled in Jack Hannahan for good measure to give the Tribe an 8-5 advantage.

But instead of locking down the game in the bottom half of the frame, Indians closer Chris Perez completely stalled after recording the first two outs of the inning. And after giving up two separate clutch hits to Austin Jackson and Omar Infante that pulled the game into a tie, he promptly served up a two-run bomb to Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera that capped off a five-run Tigers inning.

Losers of nine straight games with no end in sight, next up for Manny Acta's team is a three-game homestand with a Minnesota Twins, a squad that should still be reeling from an impressive series victory over Boston this weekend.

Indians Vs. Tigers: Sunday Preview, TV Info And More

Heading into a crucial nine-game road swing, Manny Acta's Cleveland Indians were still very much in the AL Central race, but not any more. The Indians have lost the first eight games of the trip and will turn to a pitcher who has not appeared in Major League Baseball since 2010 as they look to avoid a three-game sweep in Detroit.

Chris Seddon, a 28-year-old right-hander who has not seen big league action since pitching 22 1/3 innings as a reliever with the Mariners two seasons ago, has pitched to a 3.44 ERA in 123 innings for Triple-A Columbus in 2012. Indians starting pitchers are 0-7 with a 12.08 ERA on this trip, so a solid start from Seddon would be a huge boost.

The Indians will face off against hard-throwing Detroit righty Max Scherzer (10-6, 4.62 ERA), who struck out eight Cleveland batters in seven innings last Wednesday.

Date/Time: Sunday, August 5, 2012; 1:05 pm ET

Indians Vs. Tigers Final Score: Cleveland Bats Cold Once Again In 6-1 Loss

In what amounted to their eighth consecutive loss, the Cleveland Indians came up well short against the Tigers on Saturday night in another woeful defeat, 6-1.

Held without a hit until two outs remaining in the sixth inning by Tigers pitcher Doug Fister, Cleveland batters once again opened a game ice cold offensively before heating up when it was far too late. After Fister had already posted eight shutout innings and entered the final frame looking to cap off a scoreless outing, only then did Indians hitters break through for a run and a pair of hits.

With two of his team's four hits on the day, 25-year-old outfielder Ezequiel Carrera was the unquestioned star of the evening for the Indians with a 2-for-3 game that included a pair of triples. Carrera's first three-base hit of the night ultimately broke up Fister's perfect game in the sixth, and his second started the all-too-late rally in the ninth where he later scored a run. Now with a pair of multi-hit games since being called up by Cleveland before Friday's game, Carrera should continue to see the starting lineup while his teammates continue to flounder.

Indians Vs. Tigers: Travis Hafner Activated From Paternity List

The Cleveland Indians will be welcoming back new father Travis Hafner, who left the team on Wednesday to be with his wife Amy during the birth of their child:

The Paternity List, which was introduced in 2011, gives players from one to three days off. In his two games with the Indians, the 32-year-old Rottino had five at-bats, no hits and one RBI.

Hafner is hitting .230 with 10 home runs through 59 games with the Indians, and should be available for Cleveland's game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Indians Vs. Tigers: Cleveland Drops Seventh Straight, 10-2

Make it seven straight for the Cleveland Indians. The Detroit Tigers took advantage of a struggling Justin Masterson on their way to a lopsided 10-2 win on Friday night, the opening game of a weekend series between the AL Central rivals.

Masterson made it through the first two innings fine, before things started to fall apart in the third. He gave up a two-run double to Prince Fielder, who had the pitcher's number. Fielder got to Masterson again in the fourth inning with a two-run homer that capped off a four-run inning and ended Masterson's night on the mound. It was the second straight loss for Masterson, who gave up seven runs before it was all said and done.

Cleveland did manage nine hits, but was a woeful 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

The Indians get a chance to break the cycle on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

Indians Vs. Tigers: Starting Lineups For Game 1

Looking to avoid dropping their seventh consecutive game, the Cleveland Indians will suit up to face the Detroit Tigers on Friday night in the first of a three-game set from Comerica Park.

Indians manager Manny Acta will need to hope that his skidding bunch of hitters can turn things around in the midst of his team's brutal nine-game road trip, as Cleveland's lifeless offense has now scored more than five runs on just three occasions since the All-Star break.

Getting the ball in game one for the Indians will be right-handed strikeout artist Justin Masterson, who was tattooed for 10 runs (eight earned) by the Twins back on July 28. Though he sports a rather high 4.47 ERA on the year, Masterson has bounced back from his poorest starts this season quite well, and should benefit from the massive confines of a hitter's park like Comerica.

Friday's starting lineups:

Indians
1. Jason Kipnis - 2B
2. Asdrubal Cabrera - SS
3. Shin-Soo Choo - RF
4. Carlos Santana - C
5. Michael Brantley - CF
6. Jose Lopez - DH
7. Casey Kotchman - 1B
8. Jack Hannahan - 3B
9. Ezequiel Carrera - LF
Justin Masterson - SP

Tigers
1. Austin Jackson - CF
2. Quintin Berry - LF
3. Miguel Cabrera - 3B
4. Prince Fielder - 1B
5. Brennan Boesch - DH
6. Andy Dirks - RF
7. Alex Avila - C
8. Ramon Santiago - SS
9. Omar Infante - 2B
Anibal Sanchez - SP
