Rafael Perez Injury Update: Reliever Has Setback In Shoulder Rehab, Done For Season

Cleveland Indians reliever Rafael Perez is officially out for the season, according to Cleveland manager Manny Acta. Perez, who has been out since April, had a setback in his rehab from a shoulder injury that he suffered in Spring Training.

The Indians said on Tuesday that the setback is inflammation and soreness in the shoulder and that surgery will not be necessary. Perez also sprained his ankle in an Aug. 11 appearance in Triple-A, but he is believed to be recovered from that.

Perez was Cleveland's top lefty reliever out of the bullpen, and they struggled to replace him in 2012. They will have the offseason to determine if he can contribute in 2013, or if they need to look at other options to fill that role.
