Royals vs. Indians final score: Royals beat Indians 7-6 in 14 innings

Kansas City's Tony Abreu broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 14th inning with a single to center to score Mike Moustakas from second that proved to be the decisive run that secured the Royals 7-6 victory.

The Indians answered by loading the bases in the bottom of the 14th with nobody out, but Royals' reliever Kelvin Herrera forced two straight shallow pop-ups and a Casey Kotchman ground out to first to end the game.

Down 6-2 after seven innings, the Indians rallied in the eighth when Shin-Soo Choo had a bases loaded single to score two runs to cut the Royals' lead to 6-4.

The Indians continued their rally in the ninth when pinch hitter Asdrubal Cabrera doubled to center off of Greg Holland, scoring Carlos Santana and Lonnie Chisenhall from second and third to tie the game 6-6. After back-to-back walks to Michael Brantley and Ezequiel Carrera, Choo had a chance to win the game with the bases loaded but flied out to center to send the game to extra innings.

Indians' starting pitcher Jeanmar Gomez lasted just three innings, giving up six Royals' runs on seven hits. Royals starter Jake Odorizzi lasted only two innings after a 42-pitch first inning. Odorizzi threw 65 pitches in two innings, giving up two hits, three walks and one earned run.

Each team used nine pitchers in the game.

Jeff Francoeur led the Royals going 2-for-6 including a three-run homer in the third that gave the Royals a 6-1 lead.
