The Twins have a chance to move out of last place if they can win their four-game series against the Indians over the weekend.
The Minnesota Twins have been in the AL Central basement most of the season, but they trail the Cleveland Indians by just two games as the teams open a four-game series in Minnesota Friday at 8:10 p.m.
Jeanmar Gomez (5-7, 5.08 ERA) pitches for Cleveland. Gomez ended a personal three-game losing streak in his last start, beating the Texas Rangers on Sept. 1. He has one start against the Twins this season, giving up one run in seven innings in a no decision on May 14.
Minnesota counters with Liam Hendriks (0-7, 6.11). Hendricks lasted just 3.2 innings in his last start, an 8-7 Twins win over Kansas City on Sept. 1. He hasn't started against Cleveland this season, but be gave up 4 runs and struck out 5 in a no decision against the Indians last season.
The Indians and Twins play each other seven times in the final 22 games starting Friday.
