Blue Jackets Vs. Red Wings Final Score: Columbus Can't Stop Streaking Detroit, Lose 3-2 In Shootout

The Columbus Blue Jackets could not end the Red Wings' franchise best home winning streak, which was extended to 16 games on Saturday night with yet another 3-2 shootout win. Of the Wings' last seven wins, six of those have been by a final score of 3-2 in overtime or shootout fashion. Woah,

The Red Wings had to fight back twice tonight against the NHL's worst team. The Blue Jackets got the scoring started with a Ryan Russell (2) goal 8:51 into the game. Detroit answered a few minutes later on a Nicklas Kronwall (10) wrister.

The other two goals before the overtime and subsequent shootout came in the second period, both on power plays. Once again, the Blue Jackets scored under the nine minute mark and then the Red Wings answered a few minutes later.

After intense, scoreless third and overtime periods, Valterri Filppula netted the game-winner in the first sudden death round of the shootout after the first three attempts from both teams failed. Jimmy Howard then stopped Ryan Johansen to seal his 29th win of the season.

Sanford was still named the first star, as he saved 29 of 31 shots. Columbus returns to the ice on Monday vs. Nashville.
