The Blue Jackets were all tied up with the St. Louis Blues until a Derek Dorsett goal in the third period put the Jackets up 2-1 for the win.
The Blue Jackets will host the Blues on Tuesday night, as Columbus tries to rebound from a 5-3 loss to Anaheim on Sunday. That setback dropped the Blue Jackets to a league-worst 16-34-6, and prevented them from getting back-to-back wins for just the third time this season.
As for St. Louis, four seems to be the magic number. The Blues are currently the No. 4 team in the West, they have the fourth-most points in the NHL and are riding a four-game winning streak.
St. Louis (34-14-7) has a below-average offense but one of the league’s best defenses. The Blues are ranked first in goals allowed (1.9 per game) and first in shutouts (11), helping offset an attack that ranks 22nd in goals per game. They’ve had shutouts in two of the last six games, including Sunday’s 3-0 win over San Jose, which is in the top 10 in the league in scoring.
David Perron is doing his best to resurrect the Blues offense. He has seven points over the last four games, scoring a goal in each one.
David Backes leads the team in points, goals and assists. He has one assists in each of St. Louis’ last four games.
