The Columbus Blue Jackets' season got a little bit longer on Monday night in Detroit thanks to an embarrassing 7-2 loss that could have wound up being a whole lot worse if not for a few of the Red Wings' 39 shots hitting the post and a goalie change.
The NHL's worst team gave up four goals in the first 10 minutes of the first period and trailed 6-0 going into the third. Detroit scored one more time before the Blue Jackets finally found the net, but at that point it was obviously much too late.
Blue Jackets' goaltender Steve Mason was chased in the second after giving up the sixth goal. Allen York saved 10 of 11 shots in relief. Rick Nash scored his 27th in the loss.
The Blue Jackets will look to exact revenge on Wednesday in front of their home crowd as the two teams will close out their season series.
