The Columbus Blue Jackets obviously aren't going to be making anything resembling a playoff push this season with the horrid season they put together thus far. They can fancy themselves in a spoilers role though after shocking a Phoenix Coyotes team that is slowly slipping out of playoff contention with now two straight losses to the Jackets.
Phoenix goalie Mike Smith was out quickly after two quick goals by R.J. Umberger and Jack Johnson, who scored his first ever goal as a Blue Jacket since being traded to Columbus by the Los Angeles Kings for Jeff Carter. The Blue Jackets conceded a few times but never looked back from that point and were able to hold on thanks to solid goalkeeping, eventually winning 3-2.
Steve Mason once again had a solid game for the Jackets with 38 saves on 40 shots, his third decent showing in a row for his 10th win in what has otherwise been a very disappointing year for the 'tender.
The three game winning streak after beating Phoenix twice after a 2-0 win in Colorado is the first three game winning streak all season for Columbus.
