The NHL's worst team is beginning to slowly climb out of the basement, winning four in a row and nine out of their last 16 games. They are now just seven points away from the next worst team in the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers.
They also played spoiler on Thursday to the Los Angeles Kings, who are still battling for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. The loss for the Kings snapped their own three-game winning streak and prevented them from taking over the San Jose Sharks for that last spot in the playoffs.
The only downside to the game was the loss of goaltender Steve Mason when he was cut by a skate, but his injury is not believed to be serious.
The Blue Jackets next play a home-and-home back-to-back starting on Saturday with the St. Louis Blues.
