The Columbus Blue Jackets traded defenseman Marc Methot to Ottawa on Sunday in exchange for forward Nick Foligno.

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators pulled off a deal on Sunday afternoon while free agent contracts were being doled out left and right around the country, swapping defenseman Marc Methot with forward Nick Foligno. The Otttawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch confirmed the report:

The 24-year-old Foligno, Columbus' newest addition, tallied a career-best 47 points in 82 games this past year for the Senators. Despite averaging shy of 15 minutes per game during his last four seasons in Ottawa, the six-foot winger is still largely a goal scorer at heart, and already has three 14+ goal campaigns to his credit.

Methot, a sixth round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2003, was an oft-injured but formidable defender in his time with Columbus. The veteran will return home to Ottawa after a season in which he recorded just seven points in 46 games, as it's quite clear that Methot was not in Columbus' future plans.
