College Football Rankings: BlogPoll Keeps TCU At #3

Near upsets simply aren;t the same as the full-blown versions.  Near-misses involving TCU, Oregon and Ohio State were not enough to create major movement in this week's Blog-Poll.  The big difference between this week's poll and the polls done by USA Today or AP is TCU hanging on the #3 spot.  In the other polls, voters were much harder on TCU for their close win, moving Boise State above the Horned Frogs.

The same can not be said further down the poll where several upsets sent some teams falling and falling hard.  Utah is one such team whose beat down by Notre Damn took the Utes from #15 to completely out of the poll.  The biggest gain this week was Florida State who jumped 13 spots back into the poll at #25.

As for Ohio State, they remained at #9 heading into their Saturday Night showdown against Iowa.  The Hawkeyes didn't do themselves any favors losing to Northwestern on Saturday.  They fell to #20 in the poll.

The entire poll is below:

SB Nation BlogPoll College Football Top 25 Rankings "

BCS Rankings: Oregon Remains On Top In week 12 Standings

ESPN has released the Week 12 BCS rankings on its BCS Countdown show, and though the top two teams haven’t changed, there is intrigue just below them.

Once again, Oregon ranks first in all of the college football polls, claiming the top spot in the USA Today coaches poll, the AP Poll, and the BCS standings, and Auburn comes in second in all of those rankings. Oregon and Auburn are still in control of their destinies. Both schools can play for a national title in the BCS National Championship Game by winning out.

Then comes the interesting part: Boise State does not jump TCU, but closes the gap on the Horned Frogs, cutting last week’s difference between third and fourth in half. With a ranked Nevada team and two other games left on the schedule, the Broncos might well jump past TCU and to the Rose Bowl berth that being the top-ranked team from a non-automatically qualifying conference would earn them.

As for Ohio State, they sit at #9 in the rankings, mainly because the computer pools don’t see the Scarlet and Grey in a positive light. Wisconsin is tops in the Big Ten, coming in at #7.

Full standings are as follows:

1. Oregon 2. Auburn 3. TCU 4. Boise State 5. LSU 6. Stanford 7. Wisconsin 8. Nebraska 9. Ohio State 10. Oklahoma State 11. Alabama 12. Michigan State 13. Arkansas 14. Oklahoma 15. Missouri 16. Virginia Tech 17. South Carolina 18. Nevada 19. Texas A&M 20. Iowa 21. Mississippi State 22. Arizona 23. Utah 24. Miami 25. Florida State

College Football Rankings: Big Ten Has 5 Teams In USA Today Top-25

The Big Ten’s five ranked teams are an example of how different paths can lead to respect in the college football world.

The USA Today coaches poll for Week 12 includes Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, and Northwestern, and all of those teams’ seasons are wildly different.

Wisconsin moved all the way up to #5 on the back of scoring 83 points against Indiana on Saturday. The Buckeyes moved up to #7 after scoring 35 points in the final 20 minutes to beat Penn State.

Michigan State comes in at #11, while Iowa dropped to #20.

Northwestern entered the Top-25 on the back of a 21-17 upset-win over Iowa.

Full Big Ten rankings are as follows:

- No. 5 Wisconsin
- No. 7 Ohio State
- No. 11 Michigan State
- No. 20 Iowa
- No. 25 Northwestern
