NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 Scores: Wisconsin Ends Losing Streak, Overpowers Belmont 72-58

Stay connected for news and updates

One of the en vogue picks this week in many NCAA Tournament Brackets was Belmont over Wisconsin. Despite their seeds – Wisconsin is a No. 4 seed while Belmont came in as a No. 13 – people looked at Wisconsin’s last two games – a blowout loss to Ohio State and a 36-33 loss to Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament – as reason for an early departure for Wisconsin in this year’s tourney.

So much for prognostications.

Jon Leuer finished with 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Badgers while Jordan Taylor added 21 points, including five baskets from beyond the arc, and also dished out six assists for the Badgers (24-8), who will face the winner of Kansas State-Utah State in the third round.

Mick Hedgepeth paced the Bruins (30-5) with 17 points. Kerron Johnson added 13 points for the Atlantic Sun Champions, who returned to the tournament for the first time since 2008.
