NCAA Bracket Update: Ohio State Buckeyes Cruise to First Round Victory

Stay connected for news and updates

The Ohio State Buckeyes put their foot on the pedal and never looked back in their first round matchup today against UT-San Antionio. The Buckeyes dominated this game from start to finish, and were led by William Buford and his 18 points.

Jon Diebler, Jared Sullinger, and Deshaun Thomas all finished with double digit scoring totals for Ohio State, which shot 57 percent from the field and out-rebounded UTSA 33-24. The Buckeyes also had 26 assists compared to only 6 by UTSA.

No 16 seed has ever beaten a top seeded team in the tournament, and Ohio State was not about to “buck” that trend today. They really have a complete offensive attack, and they have multiple guys who are able to pick up the scoring slack. Today, the lead man was William Buford but even Jon Diebler was still hot from beyond the arc, getting 12 of his 14 points from three.

Ohio State will take on George Mason in the third round. The Patriots beat Villanova on Friday in dramatic fashion.
