Jim Tressel Resigns From Ohio State Football: What They're Writing

Stay connected for news and updates

After ten seasons, 106 victories, one national championship, and one large scandal, Jim Tressel is out as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes' football program, having resigned over Memorial Day Weekend. SB Nation Cleveland surveys the internet to gauge reaction to the story.

  • The blog Eleven Warriors defends Tressel, calling the Sports Illustrated investigation which felled him "underwhelming." Eleven Warriors says an investigation into Tressel's philanthropic work would bring forth more sources, who would be "no less reliable" than the ones SI consulted for its look into the more negative aspects of his character.

  • Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells, who played under Tressel at Ohio State, feels similarly. Just check his Twitter feed:

It's not his fault at all that he had a few go stray out of hundreds!!! U check the success rate of the people that have been around him!!!!less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone Favorite Retweet Reply

  • Along the Olentangy, SB Nation's Buckeyes blog, says Tressel faced a tough choice in December, when he could have "rat[ted] out his players to the suits of the NCAA." His decision to cover for them instead "likely led to his downfall."
