Purdue Vs. Ohio State Final Score: Buckeyes Hang On To Win 87-84

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Purdue Boilermakers entered halftime tied up at 40-40, but the Buckeyes would be able to do just enough in the second half of the game to secure the 87-84 win over their Big Ten opponent. William Buford slammed down a dunk with just under 45 second left on the play clock to put the Buckeyes up 83-76, forcing Purdue to take a time out and the Boilermakers forcing Ohio State to start making free throws.

The Buckeyes survived the late charge from Purdue and pulled away to improve to 9-2 in the Big Ten. William Buford led the Buckeyes in scoring putting down 29 points, while Jared Sullinger picked up 18 points and 6 rebounds. For the Boilermakers, D.J. Byrd led the way with 24 points and 6 rebounds while Lewis Jackson added 14 points from the bench.

VIDEO: Kelsey Barlow Dunks On Jared Sullinger

The Purdue Boilermakers and Ohio State Buckeyes are all tied up at halftime 40-40. The Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead, but the Boilermakers held on and battled back to tie up the game before halftime. What's really more important however is how Purdue at one point took the lead on Ohio State, thanks to a Kelsey Barlow dunk. Barlow just didn't dunk the ball however, he slammed it down on Buckeye's star Jared Sullinger.

As you can see, Barlow had the pick setup perfectly and just went right to the rim on the dunk. Barlow only has two points in the game at halftime, but it was a purposeful and authoritative two points. D.J. Byrd is who's having a really good night for the Boilermakers however, and is a big reason it's all tied up at the half. Byrd has 17 points so far hitting on all five of his three-point shots on the night.

For the Buckeyes, Sullinger has picked up seven points in the first half while Aaron Craft leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 10 points.

Ohio State Vs. Purdue: Buckeyes Atop Big Ten As They Take On Boilermakers

Ohio State carries a 20-3 record and the top spot in the Big Ten into Tuesday’s game against Purdue.

The Buckeyes are coming off a 58-52 road win over Wisconsin, OSU’s first win in Madison in nine tries and its fifth-straight win overall. Jared Sullinger played all 40 minutes, scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. William Buford also played the entire game for the Buckeyes, going for 11 points and six rebounds.

Purdue, which is 2-4 over its last six, comes in with a 15-8 record and 5-5 mark in the Big Ten. With a No. 62 RPI ranking, the Boilermakers are the epitome of a bubble team. A win at No. 3 Ohio State would go down as a big bullet on the their tournament résumé.

Senior forward Robbie Hummel leads Purdue with 15.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Ohio State is a 15-point favorite against Purdue, although this one does have some of the hallmarks of a trap game. Granted, it’s in Columbus, where OSU is 15-0 on the season. But the Buckeyes are coming off a big road win, plus they’re staring down a Saturday date with Michigan State, which is just a game back in the Big Ten standings. That said, OSU is a 15-point favorite for a reason.

Ohio State-Purdue tips at 9 EST and airs on ESPN.
