NCAA Tournament Bracket 2012: Xavier Musketeers Could Face Duke, Lehigh In Third Round

Stay connected for news and updates

After a successful regular season, the Xavier Musketeers have landed the No. 7 seed in the South region for this year's NCAA Tournament, as the selection committee announced on Sunday. One of just four teams from the Atlantic 10 to get a bid, the Musketeers received an at-large invitation despite failing to win the conference tournament.

The South region should pose numerous challenges for a talented Xavier team. In their first game of the tournament, the Musketeers will be facing 10th-seeded Notre Dame, with the winner moving on to face No. 2nd seeded Duke or 15th seeded Lehigh in the third round.

With Duke looking like the likely draw, Xavier would have to beat the 3rd place finisher in the Big East and then face off against a Blue Devil team that received consideration as a No. 1 seed.

If the Musketeers have some success early in the tournament, they could eventually face the likes of Baylor, Kentucky or Indiana, the region's top-three remaining seeds, in later rounds.
