The deal is done, except for a few minor details. That according to Cavaliers blog Fear The Sword -

Scott’s agent Brian McInerney said in an e-mail that the sides are working through some final details, but that Scott has agreed to become Cleveland’s next coach — with or without free agent LeBron James.

The team is expected to announce Scott’s hiring later on Thursday.

With a coach in place, the Cavaliers can now focus on retaining James and building a Championship team.

Ken Berger of CBS Sports.com writes that Byron Scott and the Cleveland Cavaliers aren't just talking, they're in "deep discussions."

The Cavaliers are in deep discussions with Byron Scott to be their next head coach, two people familiar with the matter confirmed to CBSSports.com. Barring any unexpected hitches in negotiation, the two-time Finals coach will take over for Mike Brown, who was fired after the Cavs' premature playoff exit.

Scott, the former coach of the Nets and Hornets, and Lakers assistant Brian Shaw went down to the wire as the two finalists to replace Brown. Shaw was "extremely impressive" in his interview, a person involved in the process said, but Scott's experience, defensive system and track record of coaching in two Finals were the deciding factors for the Cavs.

Cavs GM Chris Grant, owner Dan Gilbert and the basketball staff met late into Tuesday night after completing Shaw's interview and decided t to move forward with Scott -- no knock on Shaw, but rather a nod to the fact that Scott's resume had all the boxes checked that Cleveland was looking for, according to a person familiar with the decision.

Chris Broussard also tweets that the talks have moved to the "deep" stage and that an agreement could be forthcoming shortly.

Tonight, multiple reports state that former New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott is now on track to be the team's next head coach.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made not indication that Brian Shaw is officially their next head coach, but Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Shaw is currently contacting possible assistant coaches.

Brian Shaw contacting potential assistants, looking for experience with triangle offense. Looks like he’ll bring to #Cavs if deal finalized.

With reports indicating that LeBron James would like a former NBA player as head coach and that he’s interested in running the famed triangle offense that’s worked well for Michael Jordan in Chicago and Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles, this could indicate that James is more likely to stay in Cleveland.
