After sweeping the doubleheader on Monday, the Cleveland Indians will have to settle for the series split after falling to the Chicago White Sox 8-1 on Wednesday night.

The White Sox plated six runs in the fourth inning, but really only needed the two-run homer Adam Dunn blasted in the top of the first inning off Indians starter Jeanmar Gomez, who got rocked in the first four innings. Gomez gave up eight earned runs on nine hits and walked four in managing to get through 6.2 innings.

Alexei Ramirez had three hits for the White Sox and Jake Peavy improved to 4-1 with a 1.89 ERA by throwing seven strong innings of one-run ball.

The Indians now travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox for three games this weekend.

On Wednesday night, the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox will play the final game of a four-game set. Cleveland has won two of the previous three games and will look to win the series after failing to complete a comeback victory on Tuesday falling to the White Sox in extra innings, 5-3.

Indians Vs. White Sox: Cleveland Looks To Win Series

After taking both games of a double header and almost sniping away a win on Tuesday, the Cleveland Indians will look to win their series against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in game four of their series at Progressive Field.

Wednesday's game might be the toughest of the series yet for Cleveland though, with Chicago putting possibly their best pitcher on the mound. Jake Peavy has been very, very good so far in the young season with a 3-1 record and sparkling 1.99 ERA. Peavy has been a strikeout wizard with 39 of them so far to only eight walks.

The Indians will send out Jeanmar Gomez to face Peavy. Gomez is 2-1 with a 2.82 ERA, one of the members of what has been a strong Indians rotation thus far.

The Indians have won six of their last eight and are 7-3 in their last ten games, form they'll need to keep up if they want to hold off the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. They go to a tough series against the Red Sox next so beating the White Sox once again to keep their momentum going would give them a boost.

The game will be at Progressive Field at 7:05 p.m. ET.

The Cleveland Indians fought back from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings, but Chris Perez gave up two in the top half of the tenth and Addison Reed shut down the Indians in the bottom half to give the White Sox a 5-3 win after being swept in a doubleheader on Monday.

Down 3-0 heading into the home half of the eighth inning, the Indians chased White Sox starter John Danks with a pair of singles from Casey Kotchman and Jack Hannahan. The Indians loaded the bases against reliever Chris Sale when Alexei Ramirez committed an error and Jason Kipnis knocked in the Indians' first run on a ground out. After an Asdrubal Cabrera walk, Carlos Santana singled home the other two to tie the game.

Perez came on for the Indians in the tenth and immediately gave up a single to Paul Konerko. Alex Rios tripled him home with one out and Ramirez made up for his error earlier by bringing him home.

Kotchman, Santana and Hannahan each had two hits for the Indians. Justin Masterson threw six strong innings, only giving up two earned runs while striking out five.

The fourth and final game of this series will be Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Taking the mound for the Indians will be righthander Justin Masterson, who is 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA in six starts this season. Masterson will face a Chicago lineup that features a dangerous 3-4 punch in the middle in consistent home run threats Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko. For the Indians, recently-acquired outfielder Johnny Damon will make his sixth start of 2012 in the leadoff spot for manager Manny Acta.

Indians Vs. White Sox: After Doubleheader Sweep, Cleveland Looks To Keep Chicago Down

The Cleveland Indians can make it five in a row -- and Justin Masterson can make it two in a row -- over the Chicago White Sox.

Masterson will square off against White Sox starter John Danks Tuesday in the third game of a four-game series between the AL Central rivals.

Masterson logged his first win of the season on May 3 against the White Sox. It wasn't all that pretty -- Masterson gave up eight hits and three walks in 6.1 innings -- but his six strikeouts, coupled with the offense's seven runs, proved to be enough.

On the season Masterson is 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA.

Danks, who also started on May 3, is 2-4 with a 6.51 ERA. In that May 3 contest, Danks gave up six earned runs in seven innings.

Fueled in part by their recent run against the Sox, Cleveland, 17-11, has opened up a three-game lead in the Central. Detroit is second at 14-14 and Chicago third at 13-17.

First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 ET.

Indians Vs. White Sox Final Score: Shelley Duncan's RBI Double In Eighth Propels Cleveland To Doubleheader Sweep

After a rain delay of over an hour, the Cleveland Indians lost their lead and recaptured it in the same inning to sweep Monday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox and improve to 17-11 on the young season.

The Indians lost a reliever due to the rain delay and then lost their lead in the top half of the eighth inning when play resumed. The White Sox had two on and nobody out, and Alex Rios was ready to face Dan Wheeler who had just replaced starter Josh Tomlin when the rains came. After the delay, Wheeler was replaced by Joe Smith, who allowed one of the inherited runners to score, tying the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Asdrubal Cabrera led the inning off with a single and was followed by a Carlos Santana single. After Travis Hafner popped out, Shelley Duncan doubled down the left field line off Matt Thornton, scoring Cabrera.

In the ninth, Tony Sipp made easy work and picked up the save for the resting Chris Perez.

The Indians are now two and a half games up on the Tigers in the Central with the Tigers still playing out west. The Indians and White Sox continue their four-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Indians Vs. White Sox Update: Game To Resume At 10:35 P.M. ET

The White Sox will have two men on with one out in the eighth and Alex Rios hitting. Dan Wheeler just replaced Indians' starter Josh Tomlin, who struck out eight in 7.1 innings. He is obviously responsible for the two runners on when the game resumes.
