High School Football Regional Semifinals: And Then There Were Eight

Teams now battling for spot in State Semifinals

Division I

Solon Comets                                      41

Austintown-Fitch Falcons                    0

The Falcon's dreams of winning a state title came to an abrupt end on Friday night, with the Comets ousting of Austintown-Ftich. Solon had little problem fully functioning on offense, and defensively, they were just as good. The Comets advance to the Regional Finals next weekend against St. Edward's.

St. Edward Eagles                               42

Glenville Tarblooders                          22

It's hard to believe that a team with an offensive line averaging around 280 pounds is the underdog, but they sure aren't any more. With an upset special over number one ranked Glenville, Ed's moves on to battle Solon for a spot in the State Semifinals. This was the Tarblooder's only defeat of the entire 2010 campaign.

Division II

Lake Catholic Cougars                        24

Howland Tigers                                       7

The Cougars proved to be the most dominant cat on the field, as their consistent defensive unit permitted only single digits in points for the ninth time this year. In 12 games, opposing offensive teams have compiled a rousing 77 total points on them. Lake Catholic brings its fortified defense to Ashland to play the Arrows, who have scored 30 plus points in nine of twelve games this season.

Olmsted Falls Bull Dogs                     56

Maumee Panthers                                28

The Dogs silenced the cats on Friday as it appears Olmsted Falls has destiny on their side. If the beat the Maple Heights Mustangs this coming week, they will have made it to the State Semifinals for the first time in a long time. But the Mustangs will be tough to overcome, but the Bull Dogs are white hot right now.

Division III

Cardinal Mooney Cardinals                            27

St. Vincent -St. Mary's Fighting Irish              20

The Cardinals had enough in them to beat the Fighting Irish in a 48 minute heated battle that included multiple lead changes. The Fighting Irish could not hold their first half upper hand, and let it slip away to Cardinal Mooney. The Cardinals take St.Vincent-St. Mary's spot in the Regional Finals this weekend against Butchel.
