Brian Schaefering Has Quite The Arm

Second-year defensive lineman Brian Schaefering had an impressive end to last season and looks to make a bigger impact this year with the Cleveland Browns. With Shaun Rogers nursing an injury, Schaefering was able to get extra reps throughout mini-camp. During the last day of camp, Schaefering was a “hero” of sorts — for his ability to throw the football.

Schaefering yelled, “See, I should be a quaterback!” as he fired a 65-yard pass through narrow uprights to get the Browns off the practice field a little early.

Eric Mangini took note:

“There was no run-up, nothing, just chuck it. He’s got a gun. Maybe we’ll use him for like the last play. The last play from the minus 20.”

Just think — if Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn were on the team, we’d have one quarterback who would’ve been badly off target in the challenge, and another who wouldn’t have been able to get the ball far enough. How far we’ve come since the Mike Holmgren era, and it’s not even the regular season!
