On Wednesday the Indians traded infielder Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospect Giovanni Soto. Luis Valbuena was called up to take Peralta's spot on the roster.
Peralta, the Indians' all-time leader in home runs for a shortstop, will probably play immediately for an injury-riddled Tigers' team trying desperately to stay in striking range in the AL Central, where Detroit is currently third behind the White Sox and Minnesota.
Peralta, who made his major league debut in 2003 and has spent his entire career with the Tribe, hit .264, with 103 homers and 456 RBI in 923 games for the Indians.
