Derek Anderson To Start Over Matt Leinart In Arizona

Despite the fact that former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson no longer plays for Cleveland, a good percentage of fans are still following his progress with the Arizona Cardinals. It’s not that he has a fan club necessarily; most of those fans just want to see Anderson blow up in Arizona too. Now, he might get that chance.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that Anderson will start the third preseason game this week against the Chicago Bears. That means that Matt Leinart will come off the bench:

Whisenhunt stressed the change wasn’t necessarily permanent, but it doesn’t take a genius to see this is now Anderson’s job to lose. The third preseason game is every team’s chance for a final “dress rehearsal” for the season.

It looks like Anderson is getting the better deal than Brady Quinn. Quinn has to fight off Tim Tebow in Denver for the No. 2 quarterback job, and starter Kyle Orton has been outstanding thus far.

Either way, thank goodness for Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace.
