Ohio State Recruiting: Former Penn State Commit Tommy Schutt Switches To Ohio State

Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer has won over five-star defensive tackle recruit Tommy Schutt, who will join the Buckeyes, via ESPN.

Schutt, ESPNChicago.com's Defensive Player of the Year, decommitted from the Penn State Nittany Lions after making an official visit to the Ohio State campus over the weekend.

Schutt's proud high school coach, Chad Hetlet, announced the news.

"I think he handled it like a champion," Hetlet said. "A lot of different things -- how they went down -- just dealing with a big recruitment from the time he was a sophomore really was a lot on the young man. To go through the recruiting process, what the game is today, college recruiting is bizarre. Nothing is what it seems to be sometimes. I'm just glad he's landed where he's really, really happy."

Ohio State was high on Schutt's list in the first place, but he committed to the Nittany Lions in the summer of 2011 after coach Jim Tressel was fired. With Penn State mired in a far worse coaching dismissal and controversy, Schutt decommitted. Schutt is Meyer's first commit as head coach at Ohio State, and a pretty good one at that.
