The yearly college basketball shakeup continues. After four of the nation’s top five teams fell last week, Duke came away unscathed and reclaimed the #1 ranking in both the AP and ESPN/Coaches Poll. Ohio State, after their loss to Purdue on Sunday, took the #2 spot in the AP and are #3 in the ESPN/Coaches Poll.
Purdue’s win helped them climb spots this week in both polls to #8. Ohio State, the Boilermakers and Wisconsin are the Big Ten’s three top 25 representatives.
San Diego State shockingly shot into the top five this week, with the Aztecs continuing their storybook season. As the other teams fall, SDSU continues to win whether they’re on the road or at home.
The Big East has an astounding eight teams in the top 25 in both polls, with St. John’s breaking through after their win over Pittsburgh. The Red Storm has come on at the right time, toppling some pretty incredible teams on the way. Villanova continued to trend in the wrong direction, needing overtime to defeat DePaul, owners of one whole conference win.
The ACC continues to disappoint, with just two ranked teams in the polls. The down year hasn’t kept Duke down, as the Blue Devils have rebounded nicely since their mini skid against St. John’s and Florida State. UNC held tight at #19 after narrowly escaping Boston College on Saturday. The conference is in serious trouble right now, after seeing Virginia Tech drop one to Virginia. Up to down, its hard to see an NCAA Tournament resume outside of the Blue Devils, Tar Heels and the Seminoles.
