The UConn Huskies are the #1-overall seed in the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament announced tonight. UConn will be looking for their third straight National Championship. The other top seeds announced - Tennessee, Baylor and Stanford. If both teams advance to the Final Four, UConn would meet Tennessee in the Semi-finals. UConn head coach Geno Auriemma is looking to match Vols coach Pat Summitt with 8 national championships.
The Ohio State Buckeyes women are the #4 Seed in the Dayton Regional - the same region Tennessee resides within. The Buckeyes will face No. 13 Central Florida in the 1st Round. The Buckeyes have had a roller-coaster season, winning their first seven games before dropping seven of the next nine. They righted themselves and have won their last nine games capped by a Big Ten tournament title.
Also in the Dayton Regional are MAC Champions Bowling Green. The Falcons enter the tournament as the No. 12 seed and will face No. 5 seed Georgia.
Unlike the men's bracket that expanded to 68 teams this year, the women decided to stick with 64. Indianapolis will host the Final Four on April 3 and 5.
The last time the Final Four was in Indianapolis, Baylor won the championship as a No. 2 seed.
