Mike Holmgren Almost Became Browns Head Coach

In an interview with a Seattle radio station, Cleveland Browns team president Mike Holmgren said that he was just about ready to step in as the team’s head coach this offseason. He did not go through with it, which eventually led to the hiring of Pat Shurmur, after consulting with his wife.

I think this begs the question: why did Holmgren even decide to mention it? I’m not advocating that the guy should be dishonest, but he should have used better discretion in what he reveals. People already think Shurmur will be a puppet-coach of sorts, and this does nothing to instill confidence otherwise.
