The First Test

I think that is is safe to say that the Indians’ bullpen has shown a couple of dents in the past two games.

First there was a ninth-inning rally on Wednesday for Kansas City that turned an “easy” win into a save situation, and then there was the one that got away last night.

Yes, that one, the one where seven of the final nine Royals’ batters reached base with either a hit or a walk.

Now comes the first real test of the first-place Indians, and it is more a test between the ears than on the field.

Does Cleveland shake off a bad loss and go into Minnesota and take a couple of games from the struggling Twins? Or is there an after-effect of doubt when a young team lets a game slip away — a game which would have resulted in a three-game lead if only that young team had hung on — and does that translate into a Twins’ series win?

The first test of the fabric of the 2011 Indians comes this weekend.
