Paul Konerko of the Chicago White Sox and Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies were added to the American and National League All-Star squads, respectively, as a "Final Vote" was completed and tabulated to fill in the last member of each team.
Victorino received 9.2 million fan votes to easily make the NL team, and outdistanced the Dodgers’ Andre Ethier, the Rockies’ Todd Helton, the Nationals’ Michael Morse, and the Diamondbacks’ Ian Kennedy.
Konerko prevailed in a close race for the final AL spot, beating out a hard-charging Victor Martinez of the Tigers. Also in the pool of five players to choose from were Alex Gordon of the Royals, Adam Jones of the Orioles and the Rays’ Ben Zobrist.
The All-Star game will take place next Tuesday in Arizona. Game time will be at 8:00 eastern time.
