Even on the road, the Akron Zips stayed hot on Tuesday night with a 70-58 win over the Ball State Cardinals at John E. Worthen Arena in Indiana.
In a battle of teams leading their respective divisions of the Mid-American Conference, Akron (13-7, 5-1 in the MAC) came back to win thanks to an impressive second-half performance in which they outscored Ball State (12-6, 4-2 in the Mac) 43-28.
The Zips lived up to their reputation as a well-balanced offensive machine, as four players scored in double figures -- two starters and two reserves. Brian Welsh led the starters with 16 points while Quincy Diggs led the bench with 16 points of his own. That was enough to counterbalance Jarrod Jones, who went off for 25 points and 9 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Akron, which has now won 10 of 12, has a few days off but will stay on the road to take on the 7-11 Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday.
