Coming off a narrow victory on Saturday, the Ohio Bobcats are still the only unbeaten MAC team five games into the 2012 season at 5-0. Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo have all posted superior 2-0 conference records so far, but they've also all lost non-conference games earlier this season.
A few weeks into the season, it hasn't been a great year for the MAC, with as many teams below .500 as above it. Toledo and Northern Illinois should prove to be intriguing rivals in the conference's West division this season, but Ohio stands out in the East division as the lone team to really play well thus far.
Considering that the Bobcats needed a fourth-quarter comeback to overtake a winless UMass team last weekend, that doesn't exactly say much for the East division. Kent State (3-1 overall) is the only other team with a positive scoring margin so far, leaving the door open for Ohio to take a place in the MAC Championship Game this winter.
