The Ohio Bobcats (6-0, 2-0) currently sit just outside of the AP Top 25. In fact, they enter the week just three points behind the No. 25 Michigan Wolverines. A victory over the Akron Zips (1-5, 0-2) is far from special, but based soley on attrition at the bottom of the poll, the Bobcats may be able to scoot into the Top 25 with just a win.
Ohio, though, hasn't exactly been impressive in its last two games. Last week, the Bobcats needed a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the 1-4 Buffalo Bulls by a touchdown. That came on the heels of a victory over the 0-6 UMass Minutemen that also required a fourth-quarter comeback. Ohio's season-opening victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions is looking better and better by the week, but they may be one more uninspiring victory over a lackluster opponent away from losing their sheen.
The Zips have been competitive at times this year, losing by seven to the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks and in overtime to the Florida International Golden Panthers. But Ohio represents a far steeper challenge for Akron, and after its last two games, the Bobcats likely won't be overlooking the Zips.
Game time, TV channel: 2 p.m. ET, ESPN3
Point spread: Ohio favored by 20.5
