It's been 40 years since the Kent State Golden Flashes last went bowling, but a 41-24 homecoming win over Western Michigan may bring that streak to an end. With the win, the Golden Flashes moved to 6-1 and are now bowl eligibile.
They also sit atop the MAC's east division, along with the unblemished Ohio Bobcats. Bowling Green sits just behind Ohio at 3-1 in conference play after a 24-0 win over newcomer Massachusetts on Saturday. Miami of Ohio is in fourth after taking the week off while Buffalo also stays in fifth after losing an out of conference game to Pittsburgh, 20-6. The Akron Zips are still without a conference victory and the Massachusetts Minutemen are without a victory at all in last.
In the west division, the Northern Illinois Huskies and Toledo Rockets continue their close battle for first, both sitting on top with perfect 4-0 conference records and 7-1 overall records. If they can stay perfect, it sets up a big game in DeKalb on Nov. 14 that will likely decide who plays for the MAC Championship. The Ball State Cardinals sit behind both schools by two games and have some serious catching up to do. Meanwhile, the three directional schools from Michigan have just one conference win between them with the Western Michigan Broncos sitting in fourth. The Central Michigan Chippewas and Eastern Michigan Eagles both sport a goose egg in the conference win column at the bottom of the west division.
