2012 bowl game projections: Alabama and Oregon face-off for National Championship

Jason Kirk of SBNation projects the Crimson Tide to meet the Oregon Ducks Jan. 7 for the National Championship and the Ohio Bobcats to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

The 2012 NCAA Football season is taking form and a chase for the National Championship game has begun. The top five teams in the BCS standings are undefeated so chaos is likely as the season moves towards a conclusion, but SB Nation's Jason Kirk tries to make sense of it all with his latest College Bowl Game predictions.

His BCS predictions are as follows:

Bowl Date Matchup Team Team
BCS National Championship 1/7/2013 BCS 1 vs. BCS 2 Alabama Oregon
Fiesta 1/3/2013 Big 12 1 vs. At-large 1 Kansas State Notre Dame
Sugar 1/2/2013 SEC 1 vs. At-large 2 Florida Oklahoma
Orange 1/1/2013 ACC 1 vs. At-large 3 Florida State Rutgers
Rose 1/1/2013 Pac-12 1 vs. Big Ten 1 USC Michigan

In the National Championship, Kirk has the Alabama Crimson Tide facing off with the Oregon Ducks, leaving Florida, Notre Dame and Kansas State on the outside looking in. Given the current BCS standings, Florida would presumably lose to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, settling for the Sugar Bowl.

At-large No. 1 and at-large No. 2, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, meet this Saturday in a game with huge BCS implications.

Regionally, Kirk has the Ohio Bobcats facing the touted offense of Louisiana Tech in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Ohio made it into the BCS standings this week at No. 24, their first appearance in the BCS Rankings in school history.
