The Akron Zips, losers of seven straight games and winless in the MAC this season, are nevertheless two-touchdown favorites for Saturday's game against the winless Massachusetts Minutemen. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
Akron is struggling through its first season under head coach Terry Bowden, the program's seventh consecutive losing season. The Zips need a win in one of their final two games in order to avoid a third straight one-win campaign. While Bowden has been unable to pull Akron out of its tailspin, he has made senior Dalton Williams one of the country's most prolific quarterbacks. Williams is averaging nearly 47 attempts per game, with a 60.1 percent completion percentage, 300 yards per game passing, and 24 touchdowns.
Massachusetts is laboring through its first season in FBS football. The Minutemen, a perennial powerhouse in FCS football before this season, are 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the MAC this season, and have lost seven games by more than 20 points. Massachusetts is last in FBS football in scoring offense and second-from-last in scoring defense.
There is no television coverage scheduled for Saturday's game.
