The Cavaliers built a 26-point first-half lead but couldn't hold on Friday against the Suns, who chipped away at the deficit before finally taking the lead and securing a 107-105 win.
Rookie Dion Waiters led Cleveland with 23 points, while Kyrie Irving chipped in 17 points and eight assists. Seven Cavs scored in double figures as the visitors burst out to a 42-16 lead less than two minutes into the second quarter. But the Suns pulled within single digits early in the third quarter before eventually taking the lead in the fourth and holding on for the win. Phoenix was led by Goran Dragic and Shannon Brown, who scored 26 and 22, respectively.
The loss dropped the Cavs to 2-4 and kept them in a tie for third-place in the Central Division with the Pacers, who lost to the Timberwolves, 96-94.
The Bucks lead the division after dispatching the winless Washington Wizards, 101-91. The Bulls did not play Friday and sit alone in second place with a 3-2 record. The also-winless Pistons remain in last with an NBA-worst 0-6 record following a 105-94 loss to the Thunder.
Elsewhere in the association, the Knicks remained unbeaten with a 104-94 win over the Mavericks, the Nets trounced the Magic, 107-68, and the Lakers picked up a decisive 101-77 victory over the Warrors in their first game without fired coach Mike Brown.
