2012 BCS Rankings, Week 12: Michigan re-enters rankings, Kansas State new No. 1

The Michigan Wolverines are one of two Big Ten teams alongside Nebraska in the BCS Rankings. Kansas State is the new No. 1 after Alabama's loss, likely putting them in the national championship game with Oregon if both win out.

Michigan re-entered the BCS Standings in Week 12, putting them alongside Nebraska as Big Ten teams in the top 25.

The Wolverines were actually the unranked team despite being nearly double-digit favorites against the Northwestern Wildcats. It looked like Northwestern would maintain their ranking with a win, but Michigan converted a deflected Hail Mary pass and escaped with a 38-31 win. They go from outside of the standings in Week 11 to No. 21 in Week 12. Nebraska moved up two spots from No. 16 to No. 14 after scoring all 12 of the points in the fourth quarter.

The top of the standings featured major turnover, with Kansas State taking over the top slot after Alabama's loss to Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide are unlikely to repeat after the loss, as they'll need losses by two of the top three teams to make it to the national championship game. Oregon is very close to Kansas State at No. 2, while Notre Dame is a little bit lower to round out the trio of undefeateds at the top of the rankings. There's enough separation between the Ducks and Fighting Irish that Notre Dame essentially doesn't control its own destiny for the national title.

Ohio State is No. 6 in the AP Rankings, but of course is ineligible for the BCS rankings.
