Ohio State fans, coaches, and players are all excited for Saturday's matchup against No. 9 Kansas, but first the Buckeyes will have to face the Winthrop Eagles on Tuesday. No. 7 Ohio State is in search of its fifth consecutive victory. Winthrop, meanwhile, is enjoying its first two-game winning streak under new coach Pat Kelsey.
Ohio State has not lost a home game to an unranked opponent since 2008. This year, the Buckeyes have won their first six matches in Columbus by an average margin of 32.8 points. They are led by junior forward Deshaun Thomas, who averages 20.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Winthrop is coming off an impressive victory over Ohio, which snapped the Bobcats' 16-game home winning streak. Sophomore guard Derrick Henry is the Eagles' leading scorer with 15.6 points per game. Though, in general, Winthrop has struggled to consistently generate offense. On the season, the Eagles average just 61.4 points per game.
