Akron Vs. Ohio Final: Bobcats Tip Zips, Win MAC Championship

For the first time since the 2009-2010 season and 13th time in school history, the Ohio Bobcats are headed to the NCAA tournament after defeating the Akron Zips 64-63 to win the MAC Championship.

Led by 23 points from junior guard D.J. Cooper, the Bobcats held on to a tight lead throughout the second half to win their third game in as many days and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Zips hung tough throughout the contest, but a first place regular season finish in the MAC coupled with a loss in the finals of the conference tournament won't likely be enough to earn them a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Ohio will find out its seed and opponent during Sunday evening's selection show.
