For the first time since the free agency period started on Tuesday, Browns President Mike Holmgren and General Manager Tom Heckert addressed the latest offseason developments publicly in a conference call with season ticket holders. Holmgren was particularly open about the Browns' interest in acquiring the Rams draft pick and moving up to the No. 2 slot, where Robert Griffin III will almost certainly be drafted. Holmgren was pointed, stating that the Browns offer was the same as what the Redskins offered but also adding that a pre-existing relationship was likely a large reason for why the Browns lost out.

Cabot also tweeted that Holmgren cited a close relationship between the Rams and Skins as the reason it got done, stating, "not sure any offer we made was going to be quite good enough.''

Holmgren also added that while the Browns were aggressively involved in a deal to land the No. 2 pick, he did say he will discourage Tom Heckert from trading down out of the No. 4 pick.
