The Toledo Rockets didn't make it out of the first round of last year's Mid-American Conference tournament, but they are going to the quarterfinals this year after defeating the Central Michigan Chippewas 75-72 on Wednesday night.
Toledo had what seemed like a comfortable 11-point lead with just four minutes remaining in the game, but Central Michigan amped up the defensive full-court pressure and pulled within a point after an Austin McBroom three-pointer with eight seconds left. Toledo sank two free throws and McBroom missed a desperation three as time expired allowing the Rockets to stave off the Chippewas late rally.
Toledo will play No. 3 Ohio on Thursday night after the Western Michigan-Kent State game, currently projected to be at 9:30 p.m. The winner of Toledo-Ohio will play again on Friday night against No. 2 Buffalo.
