Top-seeded Akron had a good battle with No. 4 seed Kent State, but ultimately prevailed to move on to the championship game at the 2012 MAC Tournament. Led by a balanced scoring effort, the Zips topped the Golden Flashes, 78-74. They will face the winner of the second semifinal between Toledo and Ohio.
Nikola Cvetinovic scored 15 points to lead Akron, while Alex Abreu had 13 and Nick Harney added 12. Kent State had a very good offensive game, shooting over 50 percent from the field, but were outrebounded by nine and allowed the Zips to hit 40 percent from three-point range. Randal Holt had a game-high 21 points to lead Kent State, while Justin Greene added 20 and Michael Porrini had 11.
