Cleveland Indians' closer Chris Perez was fined $750 for a tweet he fired off after an eventful game against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. Perez's tweet came after the benches clearer twice on Saturday. The first confrontation was after KC starter Jonathan Sanchez plunked Shin-Soo Choo on the knee. It was Sanchez who wrecked Choo's 2011 season, when hit him in a game in San Francisco that broke the right fielder's hand and led to a lengthy stay on the DL.
↵Choo has been pitched inside all year, and hit several times, and the Indians were fed up. Jack Hannahan went right after Sanchez, and then Tribe starter Jeanmar Gomez beaned Mike Moustakas in the Royals' next at-bat. Gomez was suspended five games, which he will appeal, and Hannahan was fined $500. Those disciplinary sanctions were for on-the-field actions, but Perez's fine came in response to this tweet:
↵↵↵"Huge team win tonight, time for a sweep of the Royals. It's not "Our Time', it's TribeTime. P.S. You hit us, we it you. Period."
↵
As for the fine, Perez offered this not-so-subtle response on Wednesday:
